Every dental problem requires a specific treatment. We all want to find a good, reliable dentist to consult with and to treat our dental problem with expertise. Finding the best dentist to treat your dental problem can be difficult, so a few factors need to be taken into account.

Ask around

The simplest way to find a good dentist is to ask people. Finding a local dentist is key. Say you are living in Austin, you would be interested in a Austin dentist and not a dentist from California right? Asking around helps in getting the necesary information to find the best local dentist. Be it at a social gathering, colleagues at work, relatives or friends, someone or the other is bound to have gone to a good dentist and been treated by one. Reference is always the first step people take. The advantage of references is that people will always give a first-hand feedback of the dentist in question, as they have either personally been treated or know someone who has been treated by that dentist. Safe to say, if someone has had an unpleasant experience with a certain dentist, you will not want to visit that particular one.

Do some Research

Check the local newspaper, browse online, flip through magazines and even look out for billboards. Recognized dentists usually advertise by one of these methods or the other. Spend some time reading their advertisements. You can use their phone numbers to call their offices and ask questions, as a good dental office will always be happy to answer your queries and will always be helpful.
A dentist’s website always has details of the dentist’s services and treatments that he performs. It will usually have images of the office, before and after images of previously treated patients and will have most of the information you need to feel inclined to go and visit the dental office. A good representation of the dentist is a good sign.

Visit their Dental Clinic

Once you have explored your options and feel that you have some good dentists in mind, the next step is to visit their office. See if their locations are convenient for you visit on a regular basis. You can always tell if you like the place at first glance, the moment you walk in. Examine the environment of the clinic and see if you like the ambience. Look at their set up and their facilities or ask the receptionist or assistant to show you around. A friendly staff can make you feel very welcome. You may even request to meet with the dentist. A good dentist will always be happy to answer any questions you may have and will invite you to set up an appointment for a consultation.

Ask Questions

Ask yourself, do you like the dentist’s demeanor? A good dentist will always be glad to answer all your questions and concerns. You should ask about the dentist’s years of experience, his credentials and qualifications, ask to see before and after cases and of course, ask how many times he has performed the procedure you require. The dentist will lay out your treatment options for you and will tell you which one would suit you best, or will aid you in making your decision.

Make a Decision

Once you have collected all the information you need from a few dentists, make a decision. You will usually know which one you liked best and were inclined to select for your treatment.
If you are satisfied all that you have observed and learned regarding a specific dentist, he or she might just be the right one for you. Set up an appointment and begin solving all your dental problems with your new dentist!

To improve the esthetics of your teeth, you need to find a Cosmetic dentist. A cosmetic dentist specializes on improving the esthetics of your teeth, either by simple whitening, fixing small imperfections and even giving you a complete smile make-over with fillings and veneers or even surgery.
You may know of many dentists, all of whom can perform cosmetic procedures even if they are not particularly good at it. But how will you know who is the right one to go to for your cosmetic dental treatment?

Start Looking

If you are to find a good cosmetic dentist, you need to search for one. Begin with asking around. Members of your family, friends, colleagues and even employees can help you with basic information regarding dentists they may know of and procedures they are known to perform well.
Doing some research is always helpful. Search the internet for cosmetic dentists in your city. A good cosmetic dentist will have a few before and after veneer cases of their work for you to view.
Note that cosmetic dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty. Any dentist can do cosmetic dentistry and call themselves a cosmetic dentist. So, look for an experience dentist with additional training that has done a lot of cosmetic work.

Dentist Reviews

Look at dentist’s patient reviews. Demandforce.com is the best review source. Demandforce.com collects satisfaction reviews and surveys from patients that have received treatment from the dentist. Other review sites accept unqualified reviews from any person on the web and are often manipulated to inflate or impugn the dentist’s reputation.
See the place

When you find a cosmetic dentist who particularly attracts your attention, you should go and visit that dentist’s office. Your first impression will always help you decide if you like the place. Meeting the dentist personally and observing her demeanor can illustrate the dentist’s personality and whether she suits you or not.

Meet the Cosmetic Dentist

Ask the dentist to show youbefore and after images of his previous clients and see if you like his work. If possible, you can even ask for contact information of previous clients with their consent, and speak to them as a reference. Chances are, many others have had the same treatment from the dentist you are considering and so they can give you first-hand experience and feedback on that cosmetic dentist to help you make your decision.

Know what’s involved

Cosmetic dentistry involves the use of new dental technology, along with conventional methods. Ask the cosmetic dentist in question what kind of equipment she uses for his patients, how new it is on the dental front and what its advantages and disadvantages are. Newer, improved dental equipment is always more efficient and is sure to give you the best results you are looking for.

Discuss your options

You must be able to connect with your cosmetic dentist, and she must understand what results you desire for improving your smile. When you feel that you have found the suitable cosmetic dentist for your required dental needs, you can ask the cosmetic dentist to discuss all your options with you and to advise you on what treatment would best suit your demands.
The perfect cosmetic dentist for you will know exactly what you desire in order to improve your smile and to enhance the esthetics of your teeth. Follow your intuition and you’ll know this dentist is just the right one for you.

Teeth are a vital part of our bodies and are essential for our survival and quality of life. They are what allow us to speak, chew our food and even give us the self- confidence we need in our daily lives. Once we get out permanent set of teeth, they are meant to last us all our lives, so caring for them is crucial.

Lack of tooth care can lead to many problems, such as tooth decay, pain, tooth loss, infections, malnutrition (since inability to chew means inability to eat and intake vital nutrition), difficulty in speech and even low self- esteem.

How to care for teeth?

Taking care of your teeth on a daily basis is highly important, yet extremely simple, provided that the correct methods are practiced to care for them. Taking care of teeth on a day to day basis can avoid spending money with a dentist.

The Tooth brush

We must first pay attention to our basic tooth care instrument, the tooth brush. Using the right tooth brush will help to get rid of most plaque and food debris from the teeth. Normally, a medium to soft, criss- cross or zig- zag bristled tooth brush should be used, as these have the most access to hard to reach areas of the teeth.

The technique of tooth brushing is what makes brushing the teeth worthwhile. Holding the brush at a 45 degree angle from the tooth surface allows both, the tooth surface and the gum line to be cleaned. Even the area beneath the gum is accessed by the brush bristles. Brushing in a short, outward motion is best, since it is like a “sweeping away” action for the plaque and debris. Always brush for a minimum of 2- 3 minutes, to effectively remove all plaque and to allow the fluoride in the tooth to incorporate itself into the tooth, strengthening them as you brush.

Dental Floss

Flossing on a daily basis greatly helps to prevent any plaque build- up in hard to remove areas between the teeth. The tooth brush can remove up to 90% of plaque, but it still cannot reach the small areas between the teeth. This is where floss comes into play, as it effectively reaches the embrasure spaces between the teeth to remove all left over plaque.

The floss should be turned in a C- shape around each tooth and moved back and forth until all the plaque has been removed. It is then slowly pulled out. Always use floss with gentle pressure, and try not to damage the gum between the teeth or it could cause bleeding and pain.

Mouth wash

Using a mouth wash after brushing the teeth gives an added boost to the level of fluoride for the teeth. It also acts as an anti- septic, and as a fluid, can reach places that mechanical brushing and flossing cannot. Mouth wash can also be used after every meal, just to avoid the demineralizing attack of bacteria. It also helps to restore and maintain fresh breath. It only needs to be vigorously swished around the mouth for 60 seconds.

Diet

A sugar- free diet is always best when it comes to tooth care. Foods high in sugar cause rapid demineralization of teeth, as the mouth’s bacteria use it to break down tooth substance. Avoid eating sweet snacks between meals and chew sugar- free gum. As always, drink plenty of fresh fluids and water, as they have a washing effect on the teeth. Drinking water also stimulates saliva production, which further protects the teeth by keeping them moist, washing them and providing them with minerals.

The Dentist

Regular visits to the dentist for a dental check- up and cleaning is crucial to having healthy teeth. The dentist will take a detailed medical and dental history and visually assess the status of the teeth and the gums. He will also take routine radiographs or X-rays to check for any abnormal growths or infections within the jaws, such as cysts, tumors or an abscess.

The dentist or even the dental hygienist may perform a simple tooth cleaning using ultrasonic instruments to effectively remove any adherent tartar or stains on the teeth, and will give basic oral hygiene instructions if they are needed.

Effectively maintaining oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist is the key to having healthy, strong teeth for a lifetime.

Your teeth are what make you and your smile stand out. That perfect set of straight, white teeth is enough to make you feel confident and ready to take on any social interaction. We all desire a nice white set of teeth, and cosmetic dentistry can give us just that.

A cosmetic dentist is one who specializes in making your smile perfect and knows how to make you feel beautiful. It’s all about understanding esthetics, and what is most important to you. He realizes the importance of perfecting even the most minor imperfections of your teeth and what a large difference a small change can make.

What to look for?

Advanced training

When you go to a cosmetic dentist, you should find out if he advanced training. This would ensure that the cosmetic dentist is qualified, and has the necessary skills required to meet your intricate cosmetic needs. A good cosmetic dentist will have completed a necessary course in cosmetic dental training and will have good credentials.

Dedication

A good cosmetic dentist will be more than happy to listen to your complaint regarding your teeth, will pay full attention to exactly what outcome you are looking for and will understand just how important it is to you to fix what bothers you most about your teeth.

Experience and references

When you ask the cosmetic dentist to show you pictures of all previous cases, you will be amazed by the “before and after” photos you see. If you like what this dentist has done in past, you can be assured that you have found the right one to fulfill your esthetic demands. The cosmetic dentist will be proud to share contact information of his previous patients, with their consent, to allow you to take references from them for similar treatments they have had from him.

Equipment

A very good cosmetic dentist will make sure that he has all the latest technology available in dentistry to enable him to perform minor to complex cosmetic dental procedures, in order to obtain the optimal outcome for his patients. He realizes the value and importance of each of his patients’ needs and ensures that all the best and latest technology is available in his clinic to enable him to perform his best. High tech equipment means high quality outcome, and the cosmetic dentist will make sure he has the best of everything he needs to ensure an excellent outcome.

Talent

A good cosmetic dentist has to be very talented with his skills and be an expert in his field. Cosmetic dentistry may not be a separate, recognized dental specialty, but it does require separate training. A cosmetic dentist has keen observational skills for even the smallest imperfections, and aims for completely impeccable results and nothing less.

Communication

Your chosen cosmetic dentist will be more than happy to discuss all your available treatment options. He will discuss the pros and cons of each type of treatment, give details on exactly what it is and how it is done and will openly discuss expenses and payment options with you as well. He understands that cosmetic dentistry is in no way a relaxed field of dentistry and that it requires much skill, dedication, time and expertise. He is aware that it is a costly investment for his patients, so each patient must be given all the time and dedication equally in order to achieve their desired results.

A good cosmetic dentist will always leave you completely satisfied with your treatment, and will ensure that he has done his best to give you more than what you desired for your teeth. To your cosmetic dentist, your smile matters the most!

Losing teeth as a person ages is a normal, physiological process. There may be other reasons for a lost tooth or multiple lost teeth, in younger individuals, such as trauma, tooth decay and even infection, diseased gums and periodontal tissues. In order to replace a lost tooth, a common practice is to wear a removable prosthesis such as a denture, or to have a bridge placed to compensate for the lost tooth.

Thanks to advancements in dentistry, a new form of replacing teeth permanently was devised, in the form of dental implants.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants, in the simplest terms, are a method of replacing the missing roots of teeth permanently, in order to restore the missing tooth’s function and to enhance esthetics. They are prosthetic replacements for missing roots and so they help to replace lost teeth.

When the implant is placed within the bone, it acts as a root, upon which prosthetic crown is cemented. This replaces the missing tooth’s crown. In essence, implants are like metal posts or ‘screws’ which are permanently fixed within the bone where a previous root existed, upon which the crown is fixed.

What are implants made of?

Implants are made of bio-compatible metals such as Titanium and Nickel. Nowadays, titanium implants are most commonly used. The reason for this is that, titanium has the special ability to attract bone- forming cells.

After being placed, the titanium implant attracts bone cells from its surrounding bone, which begin to collect around the implant. This bone deposition around the implant gives it excellent stability within the bone and the process by which this occurs is known as “osseo-integration”, meaning the implant naturally adapts itself within the bone, becoming part of it.

How are Dental Implants placed?

Implants are placed in a relatively simple manner, given the fact that they serve such a complex function.

The dental surgeon first assesses the patient’s case by taking a proper medical and dental history. Routine radiographs are taken to study the quality and amount of bone available for the implants. The dental surgeon will then decide what kind of implant needs to be placed and whether any additional measures need to be taken in order to place the implant successfully, such as bone grafting, in case there is insufficient bone available.

During the actual procedure, the dental surgeon first cuts through the gum to expose the area of bone to be worked on. He then drills minute holes, smaller than the implants, within the bone with the help of a hand-piece or “drill”. Once the hole is made, the implant is placed into the hole and then further screwed into the bone, beyond the depth of the hole for better adaptation, strength and support. The implant has a portion which stays above gum-line. This portion is used to support the dental prosthesis that is to replace the tooth’s crown.

The implant is then left alone for a few weeks to allow the gum and bone to heal adequately, as well as to gain stability. This is the period where the osseo-integration plays its vital role.

Once the implant is completely embedded within the bone, it is now ready to serve its main purpose – to replace the missing tooth and to restore the function of the lost teeth. The exposed surface of the implant above the gum – line is then used to support the dental prosthesis it was placed in the bone for. The prosthesis used could be a bridge, a crown and even a partial denture.

Dental implants have a played a major role in the advancement of prosthetic dentistry and newer forms of implants, along with a wider range of their use, have been devised.
